So Saturday and Sunday will be a combo because yesterday, we celebrated Ms. Ashe's 17th b-day. I was really concerned about this day because of the fact that we took her to this very swank joint in St Louis called Bacana Brasil (www.bacanabrasil.com). It's a Brazilian steak house where they dont really have menus because they bring ALL of the meats to your table and you choose what you'd like. Great place for people who CAN PUT AWAY SOME FOOD!!! Of course, I ate more than I should have eaten but I gotta pride myself on not eating more than that. LoL The last time we went, we tried to shut that place DOWN!! ☺ In any case, I really did stay minimal. Then we came home and made popcorn balls and such. Again, I refrained-which is a BIG DEAL to me because I can eat a hundred popcorn balls. Course, I did grab a few marshmallows but I didnt even have one popcorn ball! I let my "mini gluttony" at the restaurant carry me through dinner and into the night.
Yay me!!!
That brings me to today! I discovered something that I simply didnt know. Walmart will take food back!☺ We'd gotten things like pizza rolls for Ashe's friends dinner last night and cinnamon rolls for breakfast but everyone went home last night. You know one bad apple will spoil the WHOLE bunch. And it's usually this SAME bad apple. But I digress...that's a totally different issue. In any case, they do. As long as it's unopened and you have a receipt.
Soooooo, on to what I've been waiting for!!! To see what my efforts have brought me to. (caveat: we had a b-day party on friday at work, a dinner for my pastor, and Ashe's celebration yesterday) Drum roll please!!!!!
Ooooohweee!!! I've lost 2.9lbs since last Sunday!!! Still gotta do the measurements but I'm sooooo excited!!!!! I'm at 239 1/4!!!!! My calorie intake for today was 1510! A little higher than I wanted but still not too bad. Gettin back there starting tomorrow.
Total weight: 239 1/4
Total BMI: 43.86
This is soooooooooo cool!

Day 9
So today was effectively my "cheat day". We had a b-day party at work and thenI must pride myself on one thing...thought a pastors appreciation dinner this evening. I didnt get home until close to 10pm tonight so this is day 2 with no exercise. Its funny the things your body gets use to and how quickly it gets use to them. I'm actually feeling "neglectful of my duties" to myself.
But I must pride myself on one thing...though I dont know the exact calorie count of my food intake today, I was mindful of the amount of my consumption. I went for the plain yogurt and fruit this morning with a small slice of the carrot cake. Then for dinner, I got small portions of the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and corn that was catered. Plus, I got the salad with no dressing.
So though I'm stuffed and feel like Ive eaten a car, I really dont think that I ate that much. Tomorrow is Ashe's bday lunch at Bacana Brasil. Pray my "stremf in da Lawd" because that place is GOOD!!!!!

Day 8
Boy, this has been the day from HELL!!! Like going down a slide of razors into an alcohol pool. Didnt get off work until late then had to go grocery shopping and back for American Idol. Exercise has TRULY gone out the window today as it's 10:30 pm! But I'm extremely proud of the WAY we shopped this time. Very healthy without sacrificing taste. Didnt do a lot of "low fat/low cal" stuff but still bought more "whole" foods for REAL meals...not microwaved!
So all in all, "health wise", it was a good day. And my calorie intake was only 1137.
From here, it's time for the bed. If I'm to be able to endure at this job, I'm gonna hafta figure out how to make this work.

Day 7
Had physical therapy today. Still in rehab from the car accident. Truth be told, I dont think it's really working. Still have the back pain that doesnt seem to go away. What I'm hoping is that if I lose a little more weight, it'll take some of the pressure off my forever aching back!
I'm actually really proud of myself because we had our monthly birthday party at work which includes cake. But I politely declined. Of course, it may have had something to do with the fact that we have a repeat "booger picker" in our office and he elected to help with cutting the cake. LoL I'm wrong...I know. But truth is truth!
To that end, today's caloric intake was 1282. Made a wicked meal today with chicken breast, steamed broccoli and baked beans (WITH the bbq sauce and sugar!!!). I was craving the baked beans somethin awful. ☺ But of course, I still pushed it on the Wii. 365 calories burned. In hindsight, I may have pushed it a little too hard. Will see how I sleep tonight and how I feel in the morning.

Day 6
I had the most terrific honor that a person can have today at work. There was a fallen soldier who was from my area (no, I didnt know him) who was being escorted back home. My Commanding General was presiding over his funeral. There was an email that went out asking for volunteers to line the streets of the base I work on as the hearse passes. Of course, it took NO time for me to raise my hand. So in 30 degree weather, we (both military and civilian) lined the street from the flight line to the front gate; BOTH sides of the street. All to salute a man who gave his country ALL he had to give. Of all the movie stars and sports personalities out there, I have FINALLY gotten to witness a REAL and TRUE American hero! God bless his family as they say their final goodbyes.
This man whom I didnt even know inspired me to strive even more for what I want. So to that end, my daily caloric intake was 1155. Kinda low but I had a light (and healthy) dinner. Then I did my "WiiFit for cripples" and managed to squeeze out 468 calories burned. I feel really good and am not hungry in the slightest. I even had a small piece of brownie and a half a glass of milk as my dessert.
Feelin great about myself now today! Prayin this trend keeps up.

Day 5
Today was a difficult day at work. Not so much because of the work, itself, but because I was so busy that I actually didnt get to eat until around 3:15pm. Funny thing, though. While I definitely was not trying to deliberately starve myself, I was so busy that I didnt realize I hadnt eaten and wasnt hungry either until around 3:00.
However, a plus side is the fact that I found out that I would actually NOT die by taking the stairs to the 3rd floor where I work!☺ Yes, y'all! I made it!!!! Hurambe!!!!! Soooo, I think I'm gonna add the stairs to my daily work out. Definitely not in the morning when I have a full suitcase going to work but throughout the day, I'm going to make it a goal to go up and down at least twice while at work. That's good enough for now. :-)
But of course, thus far, nothing is impeding my "Wii Fit workout for cripples".☺ I'm still lovin it. Today I managed to eek out 350 calories burned on that thing. And my caloric intake today was 1380. All of this while still eating a pepperoni pizza from Lil Caesar's. Yep, had a couple slices of pizza and still managed to stay under my cal-count.
Lord, please help me to keep up with the new-found motivation that I have been blessed with!

Day 4
Exodus 20: 8-10
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God
So that will be my mantra on Sunday; however, I did my first official weigh in today. I've decided that this is the best day for me to weigh in, measure and all that jazz. I'm also going to go about this like the Army does (as wrong as they are for it). That's a new twist to this for me so today will be "pioneering day". LoL Either that or "just the same old thing done differently now" day. We can go with that too. ☺
Total caloric intake today: 1330
Total weight: 242 (big change for me since getting this Wii!) YAY!
Total BMI: 43.55
Hips: 51 1/4
Waist: 53 1/4
Breasts: 52 1/2
Wrist: 6 1/2
Forearm: 11 1/2
Neck: 16

Day 3
Woke up to another chilly day today but no snow!!!! Still sooooo mad about that! And of course, still sore and neck is still wrenched from the whole "slipping on ice" thing. But I'm on a mission (for now-I say that because I truly believe I may have a slight case of ADD; but again, I digress) to get this weight off me. I'm a 38 yr old former soldier and mother of 3 1/2 adults! I should not be looking like I ought to be baking cookies and knitting blankets for a living! Though, for the record, I can and do perform both very well, thank you! ☺
Sooooo anyways...as I was saying...I'm finding more and more out about this WiiFit Plus thing and I'm completely in love. I would be remiss if I did not recommend it to EVERY person I know who has chronic back pain, leg pain, hip pain or any other pain but are overweight and want to lose it. It goes at a slow pace and is very mild to your aching body parts.
To that end, I managed to work the free step again for 50 min. I burned 348 calories just steppin...again, while watching Stargate Atlantis. According to the two websites that I previously mentioned, for week 1, my daily caloric intake should be 1408.And my caloric intake for today??? 1555. To include cake. Yep, a sista had some cake!!! LoL
Which, by the way, is another tip. I found that if you bake a cake per the directions on the box, cut it into the number of pieces that the serving size suggests, put it into ziploc bags and refrigerating it makes for a good snack. Course, I had to work out a little harder because I DID eat the cake. But the extra work out MORE than made up for it.
Sooooo, tomorrow is my first OFFICIAL weekly weigh-in. I'm excited to post it. I was 248 when I originally got the WiiFit and 244 when I first officially weighed myself so I'm excited! Hopefully, all this work will begin to pay off soon. Wish me blessings!!!

Day 2
Sooooo, wouldntcha know it??? Day 2 and I've already hit a snag! Coming back from taking Ashe to school this morning, I slipped on the ice in this 6 degree weather we're having. I knew better than to wait so I took muscle relaxers and veg'd the day. So with that, I slept the day away.
BBUUUTTTT! Though my side and back still hurt, I still managed to do the Wii (in slow-mo for cripples! ☺)
My calorie intake today was 1462. And my calorie burn was 298.
Learned a thing or two today though. Like, for one, it's probably best to do the Wii with some sort of athletic shoe on. ☺ Something with some arch support!LoL And for two, if we're gonna search the internet to get answers, be sure to check multiple sites. Dont take one for the gospel. LoL The two really good ones that I've managed to find that actually give a lot of information.

Day 1 - 525,600 Minutes! How will I measure...measure a year!
Hello world! I'm Nikki (Nic-name, of course). I'm a 38 yr old wife and mother of 3 great kids, 1 great son-in-law. I'm a former soldier (Army-HOOAH!!!!) and now, middle-aged chunky chick! I know "me" well, dont I? LoL But lets begin!!!
Soooo, technically, this isnt my first day. My first day started around the 8th of January 2011 when my mother in law convinced me to get the Wii Fit Plus! Mind you, I've been cursing this program for over a year; ever since I went to one of my besties' house, lied about my weight and the machine blew my @$ets up all over that screen when I stepped on the board! Baby Tee showing my belly and all!!!!! I DID NOT find that humorous at all and that lady (the machine lady) had been a *bia* ever since. LoL
But as I said, my mom in law got it first and her child-like enthusiasm really prompted me to go buy it! I'm tellin ya, I LOVE IT! Who'da thunk it?!?!?!? Over the years, I've bought IDK how many 'Sweatin to the Oldies', P90X, Yoga, Bootleg Weight watchers, Billy Blanks and whoever else. They were all good for swattin flies. And lets face it, my attention span is as lengthy as a gnat's wing. (This is how I KNOW that my youngest child is mine.☺) But this whole Wii Fit Plus thing, I really enjoy. When I first got it, I kinda "A'd" my way through it to get to the games so my set-up wasn't correct. However, yesterday, I set up my REAL goals and today I got started.
Sooooooo, lets just put it all out there!!!
January 19, 2011 (when I took my measurements)
* For the record, I will be taking my measurements every week on Sunday morning instead of every day. I've learned from a great fitness guru (my co-worker, Maree) that it's not good to weigh in every day.
Height: 62 in.
Weight: 243 (Also for the record, I was 247 when I first got the weight board but we wont count all that)
My basic exercises tonight (Jan 20, 2011) were:
Basic Step (4x)
Advanced Step (4x)
Free Step (20 min) -While watching Stargate Atlantis (I LOVE the Stargate franchise..All but Stargate Universe...it really sucks!!!) but I digress. ☺
I burned 314 calories!!! YAY me!!! Hurambe!!!!!! (Dont ask me...got it from my sisters! I take it to mean YAY ME!!!☺)
And-ooooh, stay in your seat!!!-I'm even trying this calorie counting thing. This coming from a chick who couldnt care less what the caloric intake was as long as the food was good!!!! According to all the fitness sites I surfed, 1775 calories a day is what I need to get to AND maintain 165lbs.
My total caloric intake (oooh, yall, $10 big-girl words used here! LoL) is 1679!!!!!!! And that was BEFORE burning the 314 on the Wii! And the most important thing....I aint starving myself! I LOVE THIS!!!
Gotta tell ya...what makes this even more special for me is that I'm a disabled Army Veteran AND on 2 Nov 2010, I was rear ended by a woman who clearly was not paying attention. I've had back problems for as long as I can remember and it was agitated by the car accident so before getting this Wii, I pretty much had given up on this weight loss thing and resigned myself to be the Minion (from the movie, Despicable Me) that my kids called me and the Teddy Graham that my hubby so affectionately calls me. (Brown and round w/short legs)
Someone once told me, "it is a happy man (or woman in my case) who can laugh at himself". I must be one jolly soul! ☺
Sooooo go with me on this journey and lets see where it takes us or lets see if I poop out on it. Only time will tell.
